The HomeLab Mk I

(Final Year Project)

Automated Film Developing Device

A compact solution to automating the development of photographic film at home

Untitled Project 1.jpg

A photo lab on your tabletop.

The HomeLab MK I is currently designed for the development of C-41 and Black & White 35mm film without the need of a dark bag. Film reeling, temperature control, chemical administration, timing and agitiation are all automated. All that needs to be done is loading the film and inputing the desired process.

All contained in a A3 size footprint.

Modular and Flexible.

A completely removable film tank unit for use as a traditional film developing tank. Using a simple one way alignment protusion and electrical contacts for quick connect and disconnects, the Homelab can accomodate quick loading multiple film tanks for fast development of multiple rolls.

Unique problems, simple solutions.

Chemical Seals

Snap on lids provide easy access and refilling of chemicals

Passive NC rubber valves allows pressure equalisation whilst maintaining a seal to prevent excessive air exposure,

Minimal Chemicals. Minimal Waste.

The HomeLab Mk I only required 250ml of each chemical, and 750ml of water to function, allowing for small batch chemical mixing to minimise waste and maximise longevity of chemicals.

The bottom water waste tank has a 2.5 litre capacity, allowing for the development of 3 rolls before needing to be removed,

Slide in, Slide out.

Slide the waste-tank in and out easily, allowing for hassle free removal of wastetwater.
